Question of the Week

by Melissa Wimbish This week’s “Question of the Week” is a tad different in format. I saw this piece from the New York Times in the Science Q & A section and figured it would be of interest to us all. We can substitute my usual spacey inquiry with a real, live, legitimate question for [...]

Tunes with Toons: Batman in Opera Buffa!

by Melissa Wimbish How come Robin sounds like Shaggy from Scooby Doo? Are they the same guy? I didn’t know this. The Dynamic Duo takes their crime-fighting to the opera stage in this 1968 episode of Batman the cartoon. The Joker is so knowledgeable of his operatic repertoire! You can’t keep a good tenor down!

by Christie Connolley Placido Domingo made a surprise appearance at the LA Opera rehearsal of Götterdämmerung this past Thursday.  We reported in early March that Domingo was sidelined after surgery to remove a malignant polyp in his colon.  Reports indicate he was looking well and in good spirits at the rehearsal. Alek Shrader Alert!!!

by Christie Connolley Alek Shrader, probably qualifies as the most likable tenor we have ever seen and is well, easy on the eyes.  He is the kind of guy that warrants the kind of excessive punctuation we have used in the title of this article!  Here at Operagasm, we are always keeping a look out [...]

Mozart- A Permanent Institution?

by Erica Papillion-Posey Any chance to see Kyle Ketelesen in another production is alright by me, especially when it involves the music and libretto of Mr. Reliable himself- Mozart. Arguably, Le nozze di Figaro represents one of the greatest unions between the two. However, John Costello of Operaticus.com says this is one marriage that may [...]
