As the annual Bayreauth Festival approaches the anticipation of Jonas Kaufmann’s performance in Wagner’s Lohengrin is drawing quite a bit of attention. Amid all the drama of the festival, the death of long-time festival director Wolfgang Wagner, the new leadership of Eva and Katharina Wagner, and the shadow of disowned, Gottfried Wagner, who long ago went public with the family’s ties to the Nazis.
