And the World’s Best Opera City is…..

When you think of world class opera, what city comes to mind? New York?  Milan? London?  Accordingly to Fiona Maddocks of The Observer the answer is Berlin.  She declared the German city as the World’s Best Opera City!  Do you agree?

According to Maddocks, “Not long ago the German capital was facing bankruptcy. Now its cultural life is booming, and nowhere more so than in its three world-class opera houses. So what’s the secret?”

  1. Was in Berlin during the “cold” war and had one opera house and two orchestras…what ever happened to the RIAS Symphony orchestra? They played many modern composers and very well. The East Berlin Opera was superior to the West Berlin Opera at that time…my opinion of course.
