Awesome of the Week

by Melissa Wimbish

Happy belated birthday to the one and only Wolfie Mozart!  Watching this BBC documentary is the ultimate way to celebrate if you didn’t get a chance to this weekend. Working the celebration of Mozart into your life a bunch (this week especially) is this week’s “awesome”.

The video is broken up into 3 parts on YouTube and there’s another guy that breaks it up into 18 if you would rather watch in smaller segments. What makes this so AWESOME is that it’s totally filmed like The Office including cutaways to interviews with Leopold Mozart and Nannerl Mozart among others. This almost-comical-because-it’s-so-good, but totally serious and perfect touch gives you so much insight into the real live person that Mozart was and the reason behind the music he created. It’s easy to just say, “Oh he was a genius” when trying to explain the world’s undying devotion to his work…but the truth is, his life was fucking nuts. He shares and transforms that into his music honestly and beautifully.

This documentary makes the movie Amadeus more like the perfect cigarette after watching this documentary.

Yes, I meant that.
