Call for Operagasm Selfies! #operaselfies
by Melissa Wimbish
Selfies are both the best and worst thing, aren’t they?
Nothing makes my stomach turn more than those selfies that were obviously taken in the bathroom right after an intense workout and subsequently posted to Facebook as a PROFILE PICTURE. But, at the same time, there’s something very unique and charming about a selfie taken in the right setting with the right combination of people. They capture a moment in history unlike the standard photo and are most certainly a staple of our social media society.
Selfies were born as a cry for attention. Now, we are witnessing their evolution into something fun-loving, creative and informative. Selfies create an opportunity to show the world what we’re doing, who’s with us and more importantly, how much fun we’re having doing it! (Truth: You can also accomplish this with a regular picture, but for the purposes of infiltrating social media, please come along.)
One of the best ways we can show the cool kids (aka the rest of the world) how great opera and classical music is, is by showing them the people and the places that this art form brings together.
So here we go! Email your selfies (along with a caption telling us why the selfie is important and the names of the participants) to firstname.lastname@example.org starting NOW. (No dick pics please … unless you are a Barihunk or Jonas Kaufmann!) We will compile the glorious photos and share them with the WORLD at the end of the month. You can also Tweet your selfies to @operagasm and be sure to use the hashtag #operaselfies because it makes us feel hip.
