Colorado Public Radio Expands Live Classical Music Broadcast Season for 2010-2011

Colorado Public Radio (CPR) introduces its expanded  live broadcast season for 2010-2011, beginning September 24 and continuing through May 27, 2011, to include five full-length performances by The Colorado Symphony and three complete performances by Opera Colorado.

CPR“This season-long series of live broadcasts builds upon CPR’s mission of promoting classical music enjoyment and education throughout Colorado,” said Sean Nethery, vice president of programming for CPR. “Our statewide audience will get to join in a series of live performance events and hear locally- and internationally-acclaimed artists performing some of the most enjoyable works in classical music today.”

The first live broadcast takes place Friday, September 24 at The Colorado Symphony’s  performance of Beethoven’s Fifth at Boettcher Concert Hall, along with a special appearance by pianist Olga Kern for Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1.

“The live broadcasts on Colorado Public Radio provide the Colorado Symphony with the ongoing opportunity to highlight our Orchestra and visiting performers in a broader setting and reach  audiences statewide who would otherwise not have access to these events,” said Jim Palermo, president and CEO of The Colorado Symphony.

Continuing the series of live-radio events and introducing Opera Colorado’s 2010-2011 season, CPR will broadcast the opening performance of La Bohéme on Saturday, November 6, from the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.

Opera Colorado General Director Gregory Carpenter added, “The live broadcasts on Colorado Public Radio will elevate the profile of Opera Colorado, and we look forward to sharing our work with people around the state.”

CPR Classical Music hosts will introduce each of the eight performances for live broadcast, as well as interview artists and others from the concert hall. Broadcasts will begin 30 minutes before the start of each program.
