I saw this ad on Craigslist (a classified hiring a short order cook at the Metropolitan Opera Employee Cafe) this morning and immediately started to see how this will be heavily featured in my VH1 Behind the Music.
Picture it: Talented young singer takes job as a Short Order Cook (minor detail – I don’t cook) at the Metropolitan Opera Employee Cafe (PS – I also refuse to wear a hairnet). One day I
make eye contact with Jonas Kaufmann as I am grilling up some schnitzel for him, it is love at first sight am standing at the griddle and the flames… the flames…. they remind me of the burning fire in Il Trovatore and the irrepressible aria emerges, Condotta ell’era in ceppi. I am lost in song as one by one the employees (i.e. the Who’s Who of Opera) stand, take notice, and are moved to tears as I throw the baby (i.e. frozen beef patties) into the flames. In no time I move from the stovetop to the stage.
Don’t everyone apply all at once now, the griddle has to work into your repertoire suckas!
