If you have a scary opera director raise your hand! A recent interview with Christofer Macatsoris had me crying for my mom. Yikes!
Here is a snippet from the article by David Patrick Stearns entitled, “AVA’s Merciless Maestro”:
Working with such an intense personality, say AVA singers, is best approached in the spirit of a football player with a temperamental coach.
The Maestro’s temper requires interpretation: “He’s angry because he isn’t hearing the colors or sounds he needs to hear,” says baritone Alex Lawrence, “and he needs to hear them or he’s not happy.”
