Modell Lyric of Baltimore Announces Auditions for 2015 FREE OPERA CAMP

Modell Lyric of Baltimore Announces Auditions for 2015 FREE OPERA CAMP

BALTIMORE - The Modell Lyric is delighted to announce an exciting and significant opportunity for your talented singers and dancers! We are sponsoring an Opera Camp this summer for 25 vocally talented students to take place from July 6 to 31 at the Modell Lyric. This program will be by audition and completely free of charge to those selected. This program was first implemented in the summer of 2010 and has been highly successful in promoting students’ awareness of opera and the vocal, dance and theatrical arts.

Daily sessions (Monday through Friday) will last from 9:00am to 3:00pm and will include breakfast and lunch. Campers will receive vocal, dance and dramatic instruction, as well as master classes from professionals in the world of stage management and direction, make-up and wigs, lighting and design, and others. They will also enjoy field trips to other cultural venues and will take part in an Artscape performance. They will also create, produce and perform an opera for their final project which they will perform onstage at the Modell Lyric.

While in the past our focus has been on vocal and opera training, this year, dependent upon availability of appropriate candidates, we are considering a dance track in tandem with the opera curriculum. This would provide advanced training for dancers during the time that the vocalists are receiving their training. Both programs would be heavily featured at the final presentation on stage at the Modell Lyric.

We are looking for High School students in grades 9-12 for this program. Students from all locations will be given consideration. Potential campers should have vocal aptitude, dance ability, an interest in music, and will need to be able to commit to the entire session, which will last from July 6 to 31 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. There will be no cost whatsoever to the campers, but they will need to provide their own transportation to and from the theater. We again have to stress that in order to receive maximum benefit from the program and to ensure its success, the campers will have to be able to commit to the entire four week program.

Our auditions will be Saturday, April 11, by appointment at the Modell Lyric, 110 West Mount Royal Avenue, Baltimore, MD. Students will need to prepare two songs/arias to sing and take part in a brief interview in which they should be prepared to let us know how much they would like to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates interested in the dance track should prepare a 5 minute dance. All candidates should also bring a resume and photograph. An accompanist will be provided. Please note that classical repertoire is preferred.

  2. Hi Angela,

Thanks for reading Operagasm and for your question about the opportunities at Modell Lyric. We posted this audition announcement but are not directly affiliated with the company. It looks like the following information is still accurate:
