Musical Joke of the Week

by Melissa Wimbish

This joke was submitted by Operagasm reader David Russ. Thanks for reading and thanks for the joke!!! xo

David says:

Here is a joke that I thought of years ago. It is better when delivered orally with the proper embellishments, but I hope it will work here. Just don’t peek at the last sentence!

Much research has been conducted testing different groups of people and their reaction to music but one group is often overlooked: the dead. We all know stories are often told about the dead reacting to music, but the one I  know the best is about the Hill family…

They were driving down a dark, desolate road road late at night when the car careened off the road killing everyone inside. The bodies were recovered and taken to the local morgue where they would be examined the next day. The only person at the morgue was the watchman who bided his time mostly by listening to the radio. When some records began to play on the radio, the strangest thing happened. All the bodies rose up and began moving to the music. A veritable Danse Macabre! The watchman couldn’t believe his eyes. He immediately shut off the radio and the bodies all returned to their original positions.

Now, the watchman didn’t know if he had fallen asleep and dreamt all this or if it really happened…but, finally, curiosity got the best of him and he turned the radio back on. Lo and behold, the bodies once again rose up and danced in front him. Panic-stricken,the watchman ran out of the morgue and told everyone about what just happened. To this day the mystery remains:

Was this family truly dead, or are the Hills just alive with the sound of music?
