Musical Term of the Week

by Melissa Wimbish

Mozart was probably so proud of himself for making us all wait until the opening of Act II to reveal the Countess. It’s definitely got to be one of the most anticipated second acts in opera, right? This week’s musical term was chosen in honor of the tempo marking for “Porgi amor”. Enjoy Ms. Fleming’s 1998 “reveal” at the Met!

Larghetto - A tempo not quite as slow as largo. Larghetto is between 60 and 66 beats per minute. (Definition provided by Virginia Tech Multimedia Music Dictionary)
