Musical Term of the Week

by Melissa Wimbish

Injuries are the worst part of sports next to cocky attitudes. A lot of singers suffer from both.

Lately, I have been trying to pay attention to my stress-related TMD (Tempromandibular Disorder). I ignored the condition for so long thinking thinking it was all in my mind. I thought that if I didn’t acknowledge it, it would just go away. (Turns out, that works better on men than it does on jaws.)

Good news: It requires a lot of relaxing and being conscious of relaxing. Seriously. In fact, the best antidote is simply saying to yourself, “relax your jaw”. Take a deep breath and do just that.

Or singing a pentatonic scale on this musical term of the week is also nice:

Guyada – the Spanish term for jawbone
