Musical Term of the Week

by Melissa Wimbish

Hello, neighbor!

Neighbor note – The American term for auxiliary note or non-harmonic note. In part-writing, a note that is not consonant with the other notes of the chord to which it belongs and must therefore be ‘resolved’, usually by a step, to a note that is consonant with the next chord. (The New Grove Dictionary of Music & Musicians)

How many neighbors can you find in this song?
