Musical Term of the Week

Musical Term of the Week

by Melissa Wimbishmedley

When I was in band, we played medleys ALL the time. Why aren’t they in opera? This would be a really entertaining feature. You could sing all of the best parts of seventeen arias in six minutes or less. What would you include in your opera aria medley?

medley – Often used in overtures, a composition that uses passages from other movements of the composition in its entirety. (Definition provided by Classical Works)
