Musical Term of the Week

by Melissa Wimbishangry-woman-pic-dm-111793587

Having a fight with the husband, wife, dog, cat, fish, neighbor, roommate, mailman, or paperboy? Beware! You wouldn’t want to stress your voice! Try invoking a bit of this musical term of the week to find a happy balance that sounds like shrieking, but doesn’t stress your little folded friends!

sprechstimme – literally, “speak voice”; a kind of vocal instruction, found often in the operas of Schoenberg and Berg, where the singer half speaks and half sings a note. The declamation sounds like speaking, but there is a duration of pitch which makes it seem almost like singing. (Definition provided by PatriciaGray.net)
