New and Improved Mission: Headshots
by Eldeen Annette
Successful branding has been and will continue to be an incredibly vital component of owning and running a business. Did you know that you are running a business? Complete with marketing, promoting, accounting, knowledge of your specific trade, training, considering cost of goods, net income, and everything else that goes into maintaining a successful business. You are your business. Your mission: to create a dependable, well-thought-out business plan that will ensure that you are making a solid, reputable name for yourself in your field. One of the most important pieces to consider is your brand. What does your brand say about you? Are you modern, fresh, and sought-after as an artist? Are you strictly professional? Are you vibrant, full of life, and easy to work with? And how are you communicating your brand to your potential employer?
The first impression is critically important in establishing your brand. As artists, we have used headshots for many years past (and many years to come) to make that very first impression (and a picture is worth 1000 words, as the saying goes). Should you then offer a photo that doesn’t reflect perfectly who you are and how you want to be known? The answer seems obvious. We need a captivating, current headshot that tells a story about who we are and what we have to offer.
Being able to create an inspiring headshot is an art form that should be left to a professional who not only stays with the current trends and is skilled with photo composition, lighting, expression, and posing, but can even take your image a bit further, so as to provide your potential employer with a stand-out first impression. This is a genuine investment that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Yes, yes, we may be ‘starving artists,’ but if we don’t take our branding seriously and invest in a photographer who knows how to make you look your absolute best, then we may remain the ‘starving artists.’
Here are a few examples of headshots that have a modern edge, are still professional, speak to personality, and are a sure stand-out.
