Opera and Beyond!

by Christie Connolley

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away there was a singer.  This singer performed one weekend in Don Giovanni, the following Friday she sang jazz standards at the piano lounge, while getting ready for her next role in Avenue  Q, then woke up early Sunday morning to sing at her church gig.  This singer worked all the time, because she was open to all the musical opportunities that came her way.  Beam me up Scotty, I want to be more like her! (That’s right…. I mixed verbiage from different space shows, that’s how I roll).

This month Operagasm will help you break out of your classical music cocoon and encourage you to explore musical opportunities you may have been either hesitant or downright scared to try in the past.  Contributors this month Sarah Wigley-Johnson, Emily Thrasher, Kevin McMillan, Cathy Kaasch, Ruth Brand, Britt Olsen-Ecker, Marisa del Campo, Jennifer Blades and Maggie Finnegan will demystify genres and opportunities outside of opera.

The new year brings new monthly segments from Operagasm which will include’ Doperagangers’ – searching out the famous long lost twins of today’s opera stars, starting this month with Bryn Terfel (can you guess who his Doperaganger will be?)  This month we also launch ‘Hot Opera Plot‘ which will feature unique and entertaining summaries of your favorite operas.  Last but not least, Operagasm will feature new original monthly reviews of newly released classical music recordings.

Get your Princess Leia braid buns or your Darth Vader helmet ready and let’s go explore!
