Operagasmic Production of the Week

by Christie Connolley

I love to arrive early to the opera.  For one, I want to sit down and see what everyone else is wearing…. the gowns, the sequins, THE SHOES!  Once that is done, I delve into the program!  I want to read the ‘who’s who, all of the singers’ bios, and the miniature reproductions of their glossy 8 X 10′s (which I usually go back to during intermission and estimate how many years ago that photo was taken), the director’s notes, the conductor’s notes!  It is one of the best parts of going to the opera!  So let Operagasm get you ready with the down low on new and exciting upcoming productions.

The Operagasmic Production of the Week is Des Moines Metro Opera’s Eugene Onegin!

EVENING SHOWS   June 30 | July 5 | July 10 | July 13

In a whirlwind of youthful passion, Tatiana bares her soul to the mysterious Eugene Onegin, putting into motion an epic drama of love and regret. Based on the classic Russian novel by Alexander Pushkin, this story is a timeless tale of love, pride and lost opportunity. Set to music by one of western music’s greatest composers, Tchaikovsky’s irresistible melodies and trademark dances combine to create a score that reflects the atmosphere and landscape of Russia with its picturesque countryside and imperial palaces. Eugene Onegin is the composer’s operatic masterpiece and will be a company premiere for Des Moines Metro Opera.

  1. Two days ago I saw the Australian Ballet’s performance of Onegin (the ballet, obviously) and since then I’ve really wanted to see the opera. Oh well – I’m seeing the Victorian Opera’s Le Nozze Di Figaro next month ;)
