Operagasmic Production of the Week
by Christie Connolley
I love to arrive early to the opera. For one, I want to sit down and see what everyone else is wearing…. the gowns, the sequins, THE SHOES! Once that is done, I delve into the program! I want to read the ‘who’s who, all of the singers bios, and the miniature reproductions of their glossy 8 X 10′s (which I usually go back to during intermission and estimate how many years ago that photo was taken), the director’s notes, the conductor’s notes! It is one of the best parts of going to the opera! So let Operagasm get you ready with the down low on new and exciting upcoming productions.
The Operagasmic Production of the Week is Jonas Kaufmann in Recital!
|Born in Munich, tenor Jonas Kaufmann is internationally recognized as one of the most important artists of our day, and has received the highest acclaim in the world’s greatest opera houses, on the concert platform, and in recital. Commanding an unusually wide repertoire of varying periods, styles and languages, his debuts as Lohengrin in Munich’s new production in 2009 as well as at the Bayreuth Festival in the same role in 2010 were met with the highest critical and public acclaim, as were his first performances of Massenet’s Werther in 2010 at the Paris Opera, and his debut as Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Royal Opera Covent Garden in 2008 under Antonio Pappano. He has since sung Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, La Scala, Milan, Deutsche Oper Berlin, as well as in Munich and Zurich.|
|We are honored to have Mr. Kaufmann share his talent with our community in one of his very few solo concert performances in the United States in 2013. He will travel to Beaver Creek from his home in Munich and then head directly to NYC to begin rehearsals for his upcoming performance in Parsifal at the Metropolitan Opera. These are the only opportunities to see him live in the U.S. next year.
