Question of the Week
by Melissa Wimbish
During a recent gig, a colleague and I were talking about the “old school” method of teaching: Living with your voice teacher and having daily lessons. Essentially, an apprenticeship. Can you imagine??? Traveling with your teacher to all of her/his gigs, being a personal assistant in exchange for lessons!?!?! I would do it in a heartbeat. Any takers?
But, who would you choose if it had to be a rockstar and not a “classical” singer?
Do you see yourself lounging with Cher and learning how to master that top lip-licking and hair-flipping business? Or, are you into a more raw sound like Freddie Mercury of Queen? Well, this is a #duh# for me. I would absolutely pick Thom Yorke of Radiohead for sweet high notes, gorgeous phrasing, complete control, and not to mention a pretty fantastic touring schedule. Geez, talk about around the world in 3 months! He did mention in an interview that he turns into kind of an a-hole when recording, but I think I could fix that sour attitude with a dose of my famous lemon bars.
Let’s hear it, Operagasmers! Who’s your rockstar, live-in voice teacher pick?
