RIP Dr. James McDonald

by Christie Connolley

I am sure I am not alone when I say that Dr. James McDonald was one of the most influential people in my life. He touched the lives of so many with his talent, love, mentorship, and of course his sense of humor.

It is my sad duty to inform our readers of his death on Saturday, February 12, 2011. McD or Dr. J as he was lovingly called taught at Indiana University, the New England Conservatory of Music, the University of Maryland and most recently Colorado State Univeristy.  He was loved by so many and his legacy will continue in the studios and on stages across the world.

What a blessing to have this recent video of McD singing, accompanied by his beloved wife, Ruth Ann McDonald.

A scholarship in Dr. McDonald’s memory has been established at Colorado State University. Donations to the James McDonald Memorial Scholarship may be made online:, or mailed to P.O. Box 1870, Fort Collins, CO 80523-1870.
