Rufus Wainwright’s Prima Donna

Reuters describes Rufus Wainwright’s new opera, Prima Donna, as a “marathon composition [that] combined the buzz of a rock concert and the glamour of a classical event.”

The opera illustrates the return of diva, Regine Saint Laurent, after a disastrous performance and a six year absence from the stage.  The character is said to possess all the characters one would expect from a diva, “self-centered, childish and high-maintenance.”  I can easily see this character name becoming part of my vernacular, “I am sorry, just having one of those Regine Saint Laurent kind of days!”
