Word of the Day!

Word of the Day!

by Erica Papillion-Posey

Mithridates_VI_LouvreOkay, so I thought I was in-the-know about all things Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Thought wrong….. But, it stands to reason. I am a mezzo soprano. Need I say more?

I had never heard of the fifth of his twenty-two opera’s:

Mithridates, King of Pontus: n.

An Italian Opera Seria (Drama)

Mithridates the VI of Pontus was a real life figure who was king of Pontus and Armenia Minor in northern Anatolia (now in Turkey) from about 119 to 63 BC. Mithridates was a king of Persian origin, and claimed descent of King Darius the Great. He is remembered as one of Rome’s most formidable and successful enemies, who engaged three of the most prominent generals of the late Roman Republic in the Mithridatic Wars but Mozart’s drama of 1770 is based on fictional events.
