Ye Too Olde Fashioned Romeo et Juliette?

“Although I have a massive soft spot for Gounod’s operas, I am obliged to admit that his version of Romeo and Juliet contains patches of embarrassingly awful music and sinks at times to a leaden pace,” says Rupert Christiansen of the Royal Opera House production of Romeo et Juliette.
Despite his overall impression (2 stars) he did have some positive things to say about the singing. In fact, he mentioned tenor Piotr Bezcala as a modern-day Gedda!
